The TWC Heritage

TWC was founded in 1963 by John TerWisscha in Willmar, MN. The company began as a local, residential construction firm and transitioned into the commercial market in 1970.

John TerWisscha grew up in a farming family.   All his life, he joked,  “I just have an 8th Grade education, so I’m not very smart” as he quit school at that time to work on the family farm.  Which was obviously not true. 

When he came back from serving in Korea, he decided to go into construction.  He started with a pickup truck and presented plans at kitchen tables with many members of the community.

He was a very fair person.  He always wanted to do the right thing.  He engrained in his family the value of doing things right….the first time.  

In his later years, he spent a lot of time in Romania, where he built 5 churches.   Ultimately, John was a builder of people, on a foundation of faith.

Listen

If we are to accomplish the objectives of anyone other than ourselves we must listen first. As Steven Covey explains in his bestselling book the Seven Habits of Highly Successful People, we must seek first to understand. If we are concerned first with our own objectives or getting our own point across we will not be effective in our endeavors.

Learn

In order to be an effective leader you must be a lifelong learner. The day that you feel that you have all the knowledge that you need is the day that you will become ineffective as a leader. With the pace of the growth in technology and innovation exponentially increasing, a company must be constantly looking for better ways of doing things.

Lead

More than charisma, real leadership is about being authentic, which is a trait that endures.  Leadership is never about the one who leads, it is always about the team and the organization.

Integrity

The simple definition of integrity is adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty. The medical definition of integrity is the state of being unimpaired; soundness or wholeness. If we are consistent with leading with integrity we will build an organization that will uphold truth, step forward unimpaired, and peacefully serve.
